We Who Remain

Amelie Tonoyan

Tomorrow I shall leave -
Bags of everything I've ever known.
And yet today you remain
Watching as I wave from the back.

The quiet has caught my throat
And flickers my futility -
I am no longer sure what to do
As you still remain
Waiting as I read from towers.

It is lonely without the blood
That we've known.

You draw the curtains
As you did yesterday
And we forever remain
Beyond the blue that separates.
