Death of a Cat
Eric Braude
In designer orange,
fancy stripes at eyes,
our Wal-Mart greeter
waited at the door,
followed us about all day.
What are evenings for
without Oliver, couch-
sprawled, chin resting
on my hand. He's a star
up there, you say. It’s
too down-to-Earth, raw.
